Summary

As Vicious Spirits begins, Miyoung and Jihoon are picking up the pieces of their broken lives following the deaths of Miyoung's mother, Yena, and Jihoon's grandmother。 With the support of their friend Somin, and their frenemy, Junu, they might just have a shot at normalcy。 But Miyoung is getting sicker and sicker by the day and her friends don't know how to save her。 With few options remaining, Junu has an idea but it might require the ultimate sacrifice and, let's be honest, Junu isn't known for his "generosity。" Meanwhile, the events at the end of Wicked Fox have upended the forces that govern life and death and there are supernatural entities lurking in the background that will stop at nothing to right their world。

2。75 stars? 😂I liked the sequel more than I liked the first book (which I gave 2-2。5 stars), which makes me almost give it 3 stars。Similar to the first book, this is also a good "no thoughts, head empty" book。 I enjoyed listening to it (I "read" it via audio book) as I was on the train or packing or cleaning。 So I would say this is a nice, easy, light book you can read when, for whatever reason, you can't devote your full attention to a book。It is super cheesy so you have to go into this book kn 2。75 stars? 😂I liked the sequel more than I liked the first book (which I gave 2-2。5 stars), which makes me almost give it 3 stars。Similar to the first book, this is also a good "no thoughts, head empty" book。 I enjoyed listening to it (I "read" it via audio book) as I was on the train or packing or cleaning。 So I would say this is a nice, easy, light book you can read when, for whatever reason, you can't devote your full attention to a book。It is super cheesy so you have to go into this book knowing that and acknowledging that this should be one of its charms。 。。。more

Though I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first, I still absolutely adored the amount of cheesiness it possessed。 I loved getting to read more about Somin and Junu and getting to follow their story。 Learning about Junu's background hurt me, and he definitely made his way into my heart。 This was such a good companion novel that tied up the plot from the first book。 Though I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first, I still absolutely adored the amount of cheesiness it possessed。 I loved getting to read more about Somin and Junu and getting to follow their story。 Learning about Junu's background hurt me, and he definitely made his way into my heart。 This was such a good companion novel that tied up the plot from the first book。 。。。more

My feelings toward this book is quite similar as to how Miyoung, Jihoon, and Somin feel about Junu。 At first I was skeptical and hesitant to continue reading as I missed Miyoung and Jihoon and wanted to read more from their POVs。 However, I gradually grew to love both Somin and Junu as much as I love our 2 main protagonists from Wicked Fox。 This book was short but it had everything I love from a book。 It has romance, action, and most importantly, themes of friendship, found-family, and love。 I r My feelings toward this book is quite similar as to how Miyoung, Jihoon, and Somin feel about Junu。 At first I was skeptical and hesitant to continue reading as I missed Miyoung and Jihoon and wanted to read more from their POVs。 However, I gradually grew to love both Somin and Junu as much as I love our 2 main protagonists from Wicked Fox。 This book was short but it had everything I love from a book。 It has romance, action, and most importantly, themes of friendship, found-family, and love。 I really enjoyed reading this and seeing how the conflict intertwined with the characters’ development。 This book is cute and sweet and yet it has moments that will make you cry。 I didn’t expect to love this as much as I did but the way the book ended really gave me all the feels。 I hope our journey with the team won’t end here! Vicious Spirits is a companion novel to the book Wicked Fox, the story of a Gumiho trying to fit into regular life mixed with rich Korean folklore。 While I did enjoy Wicked Fox and really liked Miyoung and Jihoon's relationship I think I liked the dynamic/idea of Somin and Junu more。 However, the pacing and plot lines of Vicious Spirits I think would have served better as a sequel rather than a companion novel。 I will note that I did read this in audiobook format which I think impeded my enjoyme Vicious Spirits is a companion novel to the book Wicked Fox, the story of a Gumiho trying to fit into regular life mixed with rich Korean folklore。 While I did enjoy Wicked Fox and really liked Miyoung and Jihoon's relationship I think I liked the dynamic/idea of Somin and Junu more。 However, the pacing and plot lines of Vicious Spirits I think would have served better as a sequel rather than a companion novel。 I will note that I did read this in audiobook format which I think impeded my enjoyment of the book a bit because at times I got "Jihoon" and "Junu" confused when the author read it aloud and it was hard to follow。 The extra narratives about the dreamscape with Miyoung and the backstory with Junu were also a bit to cluttery for me。Overall I like the idea of the story but not so much the execution, I found myself waiting for it to end at times。 。。。more

This book was very disappointing。 I really thought I would love it because I loved Wicked Fox so much。I just didn't like how the author decided to make to side characters from the first book into main characters in this book。 But I still loved it just not as much。 This book was very disappointing。 I really thought I would love it because I loved Wicked Fox so much。I just didn't like how the author decided to make to side characters from the first book into main characters in this book。 But I still loved it just not as much。 。。。more

I loved this one just as much as I loved Wicked Fox! These characters are so addictive and I get so attached to them。 I care about them so much and I am always rooting for them。 I love how these books are inspired by kdramas, you can really see the connections and I absolutely love it。 I think the kdrama inspiration makes the story more fun to read。 Kat Cho’s writing is also so addictive, I can never put down her books because they are just so quick and fun to read。 I recently moved back from Ko I loved this one just as much as I loved Wicked Fox! Recommend for anyone who likes urban fantasy, korean dramas, and mythical beings and tales on them。I liked Vicious Spirits quite a bit more compared to Wicked Fox。 I felt the story was more interesting and focused, not to mention I just loved Junu。 He's my absolute favorite。 This sequel also brought in more backstory on how a number of these mythical beings came to be and I was fascinated by these stories。Highly recommend as it's an excellent sequel and Junu's story is so interesting that I'm gl Recommend for anyone who likes urban fantasy, korean dramas, and mythical beings and tales on them。I liked Vicious Spirits quite a bit more compared to Wicked Fox。 I felt the story was more interesting and focused, not to mention I just loved Junu。 He's my absolute favorite。 This sequel also brought in more backstory on how a number of these mythical beings came to be and I was fascinated by these stories。Highly recommend as it's an excellent sequel and Junu's story is so interesting that I'm glad I read it for that bit alone, the main story was kind of second to that haha! 。。。more

I know I've rated this higher than the first, though they're actually on par。 I think by continuing to read the story and characters my fondness for them have grown more。 I love the mix of drama and relationships, mythology and tension。 They're brilliant and gripping books both。 I know I've rated this higher than the first, though they're actually on par。 I think by continuing to read the story and characters my fondness for them have grown more。 I love the mix of drama and relationships, mythology and tension。 They're brilliant and gripping books both。 。。。more

4/5I liked this more than Wicked Fox, I think because there was more supernatural elements。 I loved the whole quest aspect of the book, the group searching for a way to stop the ghosts, fix the tear, and save Miyoung。 It was really interesting to learn about more mythical creatures and folktales。 Of course I loved Junu。 Who doesn't love a gorgeous, flirty, anti-hero with a tragic backstory that just wants to find a place to belong and people to care about? Learning about Junu's life, his whole history of how he became a Dokkaebi was super interesting and I loved reading from his perspective because he really just wanted some friends! I didn't mind the romance but it happened very quickly。。。 but that's kind of what I expect of K-Drama type romances - one moment it's like there's no feelings and then bam they'd die for one another but with enough angst to keep it interesting。 I didn't feel much chemistry with Somin and Junu but they were cute enough。 I'm not a fan of Somin。 She's a badass for sure but I've never been interested in people that need to control everything and everyone and feel like they need to know everything that's ever happened and how it affects them。 I just didn't connect with her。 Overall this is a great duology and I loved this second book so much。 P。S。 Junu gives off bisexual vibes。。。and I'm here for it。 。。。more

I know this is marketed as a companion novel but in a lot of ways it did feel like a direct sequel to Wicked Fox! The beginning of the book talks about the aftermath of the ending events of Wicked Fox and focuses mainly on two side characters from book one, Somin and Junu。I loved this but not quite as much as book one, some of it felt a bit off to me? I don’t know how to explain it! Still a great read!

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and it came off as a surprise tbh。 It took me a while to get into the book because I only vaguely remember what happened in the first book, having read it several months ago but as I kept reading it, the story kept coming back to me。 I like the direction the story went。 It was easy to understand inspite of using several words from a foreign language (for me)。 I especially loved the character development of Somin and Junu。 A few things about the book felt forced。 Lik I thoroughly enjoyed the book and it came off as a surprise tbh。 It took me a while to get into the book because I only vaguely remember what happened in the first book, having read it several months ago but as I kept reading it, the story kept coming back to me。 I like the direction the story went。 It was easy to understand inspite of using several words from a foreign language (for me)。 I especially loved the character development of Somin and Junu。 A few things about the book felt forced。 Like the last few chapters, where it felt like the story went half-hearted only to give us a happy ending。 But I had a good time reading it。 。。。more

Yes。 just yes。 This is gonna probably be short because I have school tomorrow and it's kinda late :)As I talked about with my review of Wicked Fox, as a mythology nerd, this duology makes my heart and head happy。 I like learning new things about folklore etc and this story is based off Korean folklore so that's really cool to me。 This next part might not make much sense if you haven't read the book but I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW HAPPY I WAS THAT LEE SOMIN AND JUNU HAD POVS。 In my opinion they are def Yes。 just yes。 This is gonna probably be short because I have school tomorrow and it's kinda late :)As I talked about with my review of Wicked Fox, as a mythology nerd, this duology makes my heart and head happy。 I like learning new things about folklore etc and this story is based off Korean folklore so that's really cool to me。 This next part might not make much sense if you haven't read the book but I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW HAPPY I WAS THAT LEE SOMIN AND JUNU HAD POVS。 In my opinion they are definitely the best characters ( well I also really liked the jeoseung saja also, they were very mysterious ) Junu has the whole comedic relief character facade to him so of course, naturally, I love him。 I really liked how the book took like past stories and tied them into the more modern plot, and by that I mean the backstory with Junu and Sinhye。 I think the end of the book was a little。。。。 hm I'm not sure how to describe it。 Not necessarily rushed but It's hard to explain without major spoilers so --> (view spoiler)[ At the end I was kinda just like, well is Junu gonna sacrifice himself? Oh ok they are gonna kill the Sansin, but then that didn't work, so Junu was gonna do it again。 But then I thought maybe Miyoung was gonna, but then Junu DID, and then Yena came in the end to save everyone。 Even though I would've been heartbroken, I think if Junu HAD sacrificed himself in the end that it would've also been a powerful ending, but I see the value in it being Yena too。 (hide spoiler)] Yeahhhh that's all my big thoughts for now。 。。。more

It's a great book, the storyline continues for different characters from the first book。 And Simon starts seeing spirits。 With a balance of the supernatural element and the characters' relationship this book kept up my interest from beginning to end。 Must read for K-Drama lovers。 It's a great book, the storyline continues for different characters from the first book。 And Simon starts seeing spirits。 With a balance of the supernatural element and the characters' relationship this book kept up my interest from beginning to end。 Must read for K-Drama lovers。 。。。more

I loved this book even more than the first book! Somin was my favorite character in the first book and this book is almost all about her! This was another great fantasy that does an amazing job of showing real life for a teenage kid in Korea with all the different Korean mythology woven in! It has it all! I inhaled this book!

Rating: 3。5 out of 5 starsI REALLY loved the characters and relationships in this book; they felt more fleshed out。 I especially love Somin and Miyoung’s friendship。Also, I also enjoyed Junu and Somin’s romance more。 Like my comment in the first book, I think the book shouldn’t be this long either。
